16 year old Manu Bhaker shoots India’s tally in the ISSF World Cup to two gold medals and 3 bronze medals by bagging a gold medal in women’s 10m Air Pistol final. The Haryana girl pocketed India’s second gold medal in two days as she leaves behind Alejandra Zavala Vazquez of Mexico.

Manu has won medals in boxing, skating, thang ta — a Manipuri martial art — and tennis at the national and international level and decided to pursue shooting at the age of 14, the girl is a jack of all trades but has mastered shooting in her international debut at the World Cup.

“I was trailing by 1.4 points before the last shot and was concentrating on my shot. I did not know before the finals that Zavala had won the World Cup gold on two occasions and Anna had won the bronze in this event and also the gold medal in 10 metre in Rio,” Manu says. Manu says her ignorance of Zavala’s and Anna’s past winning recors is what probably calmed her nerves.

Manu Bhaker has had a habit of breaking records for a long time, the winner beat the Junior World Record in the qualifying round. Last year, during the Nationals in Kerala, she shocked multiple World Cup medallist Heena Sidhu, breaking her record of 240.8 with 242.3 in the final. She also won a silver medal at the 2017 Asian Junior Championships.
