There remains what seems like an impenetrable wall of silence around violence and we must all play a role in breaking the silence. – Resee Witherspoon
After the recent allegations regarding sexual harassment against TVF’s Arunabh Kumar, a similar case has come to limelight against ScoopWhoop’s founder Suparn Pandey who has been charged under section 354 A (sexual harassment), section 509 (insulting the modesty of a woman) and section 506 (criminal intimidation).
According to the reports, a former employee at ScoopWhoop has lodged an FIR at the Vasant Kunj Police Station in Delhi accusing Suparn Pandey of making ‘inappropriate comments and lewd remarks’ and even questioning her on the sexual orientation in the public. It is also filed that the other founders seemed to be inactive to the regular complaints and ignored them apparently in the name of assurance that such an incident wouldn’t happen again. However, despite such cases, she was made to work in close quarters with Pandey who even sent her an obscene video over the Gmail chat.
While the report is still under process and no comment has been reported from the venture’s side, it brings to our attention, what actually is going behind these leading new age media houses is a mere act of hypocrisy in spite of them claiming to run successful women-centric programs such as Vagabomb, Girliyapa, etc.
It is 2017, and such incidents continue to make news and forgotten over the course of time. So, should we start considering them as a wake-up call or condone them with ignorance?
