Give me a child and I’ll shape him into anything
Aanchal Johri, a Counselling Psychologist who hails from Jaipur strongly believes in this. Aanchal Johri is a renowned Psychologist who deals with Children, Adolescents and Adults. She conducts Counselling sessions which involve Emotional, Physical and Mental health issues.

Team CJ recently met her and instantly fell in love with her personality. Here she talks about her Life, Experiences and Psychology.

Q. Tell us a bit about yourself. Why did you choose this profession?

A. I was born and brought up in Jaipur and did my schooling from Maharaja Sawai Mansingh Vidyalaya, Jaipur. I shifted my base to Delhi for my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Delhi University. I went on and completed my Masters from Jain University and MPhil from Christ University, Bangalore and was a Gold Medalist. Later I also worked at Christ University, Bangalore.
After a while, I came back to Jaipur and started working as a Counselor in school which really helped me in understanding child psychology on a deeper level. I now take private sessions and deal with adults, adolscents and kids as well.
I was always a helping person and took great pleasure in making people around me happier. I always knew this is what I wanted to do. This world needs a lot of healing and I was always happy to help.

Q. What is your greatest strength as a psychologist?

A. I always try and build a healthy therapeutic relationship with my clients based on Trust, Warmth, Empathy, Understanding and Unconditional positivity. I have worked with people of every age group and always observed them carefully which really helped me a lot. I do not follow the same routine with every client rather I listen to their problems, watch them closely and help them with a more realistic approach. You can’t treat everyone same, you need to have a different approach towards different people.

Instead of going the traditional way I do various activities with my clients and use different Counselling techniques. It’s really important to make sessions fun, which makes the clients wants to come back to me.

Q. How do you guide the students approaching you for career counseling?

A. Students approaching me regarding their careers are often confused between what to choose from – Go with the trends or follow their thoughts and feelings. I believe one must always consider their own opinions rather than be another ordinary fish in the sea. I conduct several IQ based and aptitude test for young wandering souls. I conduct Projective and Non-Projective  personality test. With the results and a realistic approach, I plan sessions. I  feel One only succeeds in something he enjoys doing rather than when imposed. Sometimes when the parents don’t agree I ensure listening to their point of view and accordingly counsel- both parents and the students.

Q. What are the various problems you deal with apart from career confusions?

A. Not limiting myself to just career related problems, I also handle various issues which are brimming in today’s world. People are too busy making a life for themselves however not living it. It often leads to miscellaneous mental and emotional complications such as Stress, Anxiety, Depression, Low self-esteem & suicidal thoughts.
A lot of adults approach me going through relationship problems and disturbed marriages.

Q. What are the challenges that you face in your Professional life?

A. People are still unaware how important it is to cure mental illness. Visiting a Psychologist still seems very divergent hence confusing every mental illness with mental instability, which is delusional. The ones who visit expects to get better in just a single session. People needs to understand that it takes a lot of time and patience from both the ends. Nothing comes easy, one needs to help themselves for others to be able to assist them.

Q. What would you like to suggest to all the avid readers?

A. There is nothing wrong in visiting a Psychologist. One needs to stop being shy instead open up and talk their hearts out. Just do not follow what everybody else is doing, believe in your inner self & try to find peace of your mind. There is no shame in reaching out and seeking help!
