Rajasthan has it all- Royalty, Heritage, Vibrant Culture, Forts, Food, and Secrets. Underneath beauty and worshiped history of Rajasthan is spooky places holding mysteries and tales that will send a chill down your spine.

We have compiled a list of 8 spooky places in Rajasthan advised only brave hearts should visit. Who knows, it might shake out the cynic in you!

Kuldhara located near Jaisalmer is looked after as an archeological site by Archeological Department of India and is believed to be haunted. The village has been deserted for over 200 years. If tales are to be believed Paliwal Brahmins who were the residents one night suddenly left the village never to come back for reasons unknown. Another tale says they did so to save a girl from an immoral minister. The villagers cursed the town and it is deserted ever since. A lot of people claim to experience paranormal activities in and around the area and presence of ghosts here and have recorded voices of villagers talking.

Brijraj Bhawan Palace is a heritage hotel in Kota, the education hub of Rajasthan. The palace was once home to Major Charles Burton in the 19th century. He was killed by Indian soldiers during one of the mutinies against British Government along with his family. Many people profess to have seen Major walking in corridors and halls and heard him giving orders. Well, the ghost is considered as harmless and never attacks any visitors.


Rana Kumbha Palace was the residence of Rani Padmini of Chittorgarh. When Sultan Alauddin Khilji attacked her palace, she along with 700 other females jumped in fire and performed Jauhar to save their honor. Rani Padmini was really attached to this particular and it is said she still resides here. Also, the cries of the ladies jumped in the fire are heard for help time to time by people at the palace.

NH 79 

NH-79 connects Ajmer to Indore and while driving on this highway one needs to pass Dudu Village. This particular stretch is said to be haunted and has seen numerous accidents. Many people vouch for the fact that they have encountered a lady with a small baby while driving around especially after the sun sets. She sometimes asks for help and sometimes just run towards the vehicle and many people have died in accidents trying to save her.


Mehandipur Balaji is a popular temple of Lord Hanuman in Dausa district. This place is not haunted rather this is where all possessed souls are brought for rehabilitation. The exorcism practiced here on people believed to be possessed by evil spirits will leave you sleepless for nights. You can spot thousands of people tied with ropes and chains waiting for their turn for treatment by the priest of the temple.


This beautiful picturesque baoli is in Abhaneri near Jaipur and was build for water harvesting by King Chanda. It is an outstanding piece of architecture and one of the most beautiful baori in Rajasthan. If locals are to be believed, this baori was built by ghosts in just one night and even though it was made to deal with the water crisis in the area, water is still left untouched. Many people have reported of feeling lost and eerie air that follow inside the baori.


This place is spooky and will leave you puzzled for days. Sudhabay is another exorcism spot in Rajasthan situated near Pushkar. This place is widely popular for its Ghost Fair and no we aren’t kidding, this village actually organizes a ghost fair. On this particular day, thousands of people possessed by evil spirits travel from all over the India to take bath in the holy water of the well to get rid of evil. The activities performed by the priest and possessed are unbelievable for eyes.


Located about 35 km from Barmer are the five temples of Kiradu. The architecture of these temples is to die for. According to legends, this place was cursed by a sage and there are stories stating whoever stays in these temples after evening turns into stones. The sage was left to die by people and he cursed them all before his last breath.
