The Man Who Made ‘Mere Paas Maa Hai’ Dialogue Iconic Is No More

Shashi Kapoor breathed his last in Mumbai on 4 December at the age of 79.

It’s almost like the end of an era. Famed for the Bollywood dialogue, ‘Mere Paas Maa Hain’ from his film, Deewar, Shashi Kapoor was the youngest son of the first thespian of Indian cinema, Prithviraj Kapoor. Honoured with the Padma Bhushan in 2011 and the Dadasaheb Phalke award in 2014.

We decided to put together a few of his evergreen movies, which will always remain within our hearts.

 

Satyam Shivam Sundaram

Rajeev (Shashi Kapoor) falls in love with the melodious Rupa (Zeenat Aman), not knowing that half her face is disfigured. But after their marriage, he abandons her after seeing her face, believing that she is not the one he loves.

 

Deewaar

Haunted by the past, Vijay (Amitabh Bachchan) turns to crime, while Ravi (Shashi Kapoor), his younger brother, becomes an honest cop. Fate pits them against each other when Ravi is sent to nab Vijay.

 

Roti Kapda Aur Makaan

Bharat (Amitabh Bachchan)  overwhelmed by the circumstances that follow his father’s demise and is unable to afford the basic needs of food, clothing and shelter. Crestfallen, he begins to rethink a life of honesty.

 

Pyaar Ka Mausam

A boy and girl fall in love but she leaves him as she finds out that he has an alias name. He discovers that the girl has been brought up by his grandfather and an imposter has taken his place.

 

Shaan

DCP Shiv Kumar, an honest police officer, lives with his family and two brothers, who are conmen. During a case, Shiv Kumar gets killed and the two brothers avenge their brother’s death.

 

Suhaag

Durga’s twins are separated at birth. The one who stays with Durga becomes a police officer while the other is raised to become a petty gangster. They reunite when one is assigned to kill the other.

 

These were a few movies done by Late Shashi Kapoor. May his soul rest in peace. May he live long in our hearts forever!
